I have been a reader all my life.. I started reading voraciously in the second grade to feed my interest in horses. I branched out from there and never stopped.
I read some books on the best-seller lists, but I also like to find forgotten gems. A well-written book is timeless and can be enjoyed no matter how long ago it was written. For example, much of the satire found in Jane Austen’s masterpiece Pride and Prejudice still applies today because human nature does not change.
My favorite authors are an eclectic lot and include Madeleine L’Engle, Josephine Tey, Charles Dickens, and Brandon Mull. I look for three things in a book: characters I enjoy, interesting plot, and an upbeat ending. With few exceptions (Wuthering Heights, for example), I do not like a book with a depressing ending. If I want to get depressed, I’ll just turn on the news.
I am married with two daughters and three cats. I live in the Pacific Northwest and love it.
